Matt and I have been back and forth debating, what I call the “saga of selling a car” but after much of unsuccessful mission to sell it (low balling is not my things), we have changed our plans and took Eurotunnel back to Europe instead of a ferry over to Hook of Holland. With my luck, it would most likely be another episode of who wants to deal with Katka’s seasickness and if I am honest – it’s not me!
Our journey across the tunnel was pretty uneventful with Matt scoring some discounted whisky. So here we are, last look at once a home and on the adventure of setting up our new one in Ostrava. Bittersweet affair but with exciting times ahead. As we are slowly moving along the coastline we make our first coffee stop along the Brouwersdam Strand – beautiful and neverending strip of sandy beach…with the views and sandy runway for Abbie and Max…

Hague/Den Haag
- Scheveningen (The Hague) – a lively beach scene with cafes, pier views, and long walks. Visit Foodhall for a drink or bite to eat – dog friendly with a great selection of international cuisine.
- Dog policy: October–April: Dogs are allowed off-leash all day. May–September: Dogs are not allowed on the main beach, but permitted in certain zones early morning/late evening. Head to the Zuiderstrand south of the harbor—it’s quieter and more dog-friendly.
- Wassenaarse Slag – a quiet escape with forest-meets-sea vibes.
- Dog policy: Dogs are allowed off-leash year-round in many parts. Hike from Meijendel Dunes to the beach—lots of wildlife and dog-safe trails.
Many beach bars offer water bowls and treats—just ask!

- Peace Palace – home of the International Court of Justice. Worth seeing even from outside.
- Binnenhof Viewing Tower – a unique view of the Binnenhof and the city centre of Hague from a height of 28 metres! With the viewpoint, the Binnenhof will remain an important attraction for the city even during the renovation.

Transport – trains and trams are very easy to navigate and trains will only take 25 mins to get to the Rotterdam Centraal (use any cards to tap in and out). Check Dutch trains timetable and enjoy the countryside.
Rotterdam
Rotterdam is fantastic for exploring with dogs – this city is modern, green and packed with a lot of outdoor spaces. You can also do a boat trip with your dog. Walk around the Maritime Museum Harbour’s vintage ships and check out the outdoor exhibits.

The city has been almost completely reconstructed following WWII. Plenty of places to watch people and sit down for a bite to eat along the waterfront.
- Kijk-Kubus museum/Cube houses – unique and cool architecture collection, can be admired from outside without the ticket to museum
- Old Harbour
- Euromast
- Erasmus Bridge

Day trip to Rotterdam was a great fun, with fab weather and lots of walking around. Watch out for the infamous cycling around the town when crossing.
Next stop. Berlin …
